Want to play Modern Warfare 3 for the awesome price of free? Well, thanks to the power of the internet, Activision are gearing up to allow exactly that.

This weekend, you can download and play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 via Steam. The game is able to be pre-loaded right now via the online distributing service. The free weekend will allow you to play the entire multiplayer portion of the game, which has been winning accolades for it’s huge sales numbers and hardcore multiplayer gameplay.

In related news, sales figures for the game have been released recently showing that a staggering 6 million copies were sold in the first 24 hours it was on store shelves, shattering the previous record held by it’s predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Of course, these figures would suggest that everyone who ever wanted to play MW3 probably already owns it, but for those 3 people who just got back from the Space Station, you’ll be able to see what all the hubbub is about this weekend.
