Captain Obvious today delivered news that Activision Blizzard will be releasing at least one new Call of Duty title this year.
Don’t get too excited; the announcement was made merely to drum up excitement amongst investors so no further details on the actual game, its story, development or release timeframe was announced.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II raked in over US$1 Billion for Activision within 15 days of its launch in 2012. Likewise, the Skylanders franchise has managed to bring in abother US$1 Billion for the publisher in worldwide sales, and the highly anticipated Diablo III pulled in over 12 million sales since launch.
It’s not surprising, then, that Activision Blizzard intend to invest in all theses franchises this year, including World of Warcraft which has netted over 9.6 million subscribers.
Skylanders: Swap Force is in development and will release this year, as will an expansion for Star Craft II called “Heart of the Swarm”. The latter will drop on March 12.
