It has been reported in a Japanese gaming magazine that the upcoming Nintendo 3DS XL will receive a “Circle Pad Pro” attachment.

The attachment will add a second circle pad for all the games (read: 2) that require it over the same functionality provided by the built-in touchscreen. The magazine had a “Q&A” with one of the Japanese Nintendo spokespeople who confirmed the attachment will be released later this year.

The Nintendo 3DS XL has a 4.88″ 3D screen up top and a 4.18″ touchscreen on the bottom making them 90% larger than the original model. It’s also slimmer and only a fraction heavier, but comes with a larger capacity battery which extends the life of the console up to 6 hours on a single charge.

The Nintendo 3DS XL will be out in Australia and New Zealand on August 23 for AU$249.95
