Nintendo Announce Pokémon X and Pokémon Y
Nintendo have announced two all-new Pokémon games in their latest Nintendo Direct video, Pokémon X Version and Pokémon Y Version.
Developed for the Nintendo 3DS, both Pokémon X Version and Pokémon Y Version will be released later this year, worldwide, in October.
During the video presentation CEO and Global President Satoru Iwata revisited the history of the series, reaching as far back as Pokémon Green and Pokémon Red, before finally revealing the brand new entries.
At time of writing there’s still a lot we don’t know, and expect us to pour over that announcement trailer over and over for as much information as humanly possible. What’s a certainty is, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will no doubt be set in an entirely new region. And there’s even rollerblades.
We also got our first glimpse of all new Pokémon species, including two unnamed Legendaries (a type of deer and bird like creatures) as well as the new starters. Grass-type Chespin, fire-type Fennekin and water-type Froakie. Loads of older species were also shown, including Pikachu, Magikarp and Draniti.
Perhaps most exciting, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will introduce fully 3D animated character and Pokémon models, dropping the series’ traditional use of sprites. Moreover, the entire game world appears to be fully rendered in 3D, no doubt making full use of the Nintendo 3DS’ graphical prowess.
Oh, and did we mention it will be releasing worldwide later this year. Yes, even in Australia.
While the world reels from this unexpected, yet much welcomed, announcement, be sure to pour over our huge range of screenshots grabbed from the trailer.
