Ahead of the official announcement, Nintendo have hit the live button for three new DLC packs in New Super Mario Bros. 2 on Nintendo 3DS in Japan.

We expect Nintendo to discuss these new packs in a few hours time during the global Nintendo Direct briefing and are slated to go on sale on December 5 — that would be Europe’s December 5, of course, which ticks over in a few hours at time of writing.

The first of the two packs is Coin Challenge Pack C and has a 3/5 star difficulty rating. The goal here is to rack up as many coins as you can.

The second pack is called “Platform Panic Pack” and is a four star difficulty. The description says, “Hunt for coins, but don’t fall off the platforms!”. Sage advice indeed.

The packs are already live in Japan and we expect them to go on the New Super Mario Bros. 2 Shop tonight.

No word on any new courses for the Wii U’s New Super Mario Bros. U just yet, but Nintendo have confirmed they are working on new packs for the various challenge modes that game offers. We’ll report in when we learn more!
