BONUS TIP! – External Hard Drive

Not content on saving our readers some serious cash, Aussie-Gamer has gone the extra mile to source a seller of a Wii U compatible external hard disk drive at a great price!

Nintendo have two models on their website that have been confirmed to work with Wii U. Now, it should be noted that most external hard drives should work just fine, as long as they a) are powered via your wall socket and b) are no greater than 2TB.

The hard drives listed, however, have been confirmed by Nintendo to be fully tested and compatible with Wii U, according to their own tests (of course, no one can lay a guarente on another manufactures product, so you’ll have to take it up with them, not Nintendo, should something go wrong).

Note: When you plug an external hard drive into your Wii U’s USB port, you will be required to format the hard drive. It will then only be useable on that Wii U. Should you want to use it on your computer or other device, you will need to format it again, losing all your Wii U data (unless you transfer it to another hard drive — the utility to do this is planned to be released via firmware update scheduled for mid-December).

At time of writing, we believe the below price is the best for the “Nintendo approved” hard drive in Australia. If you’ve found a better price for the same model, get in touch and we’ll post it up! We’ve only listed the 2TB model since it represents the best value.

2 TB External HDD

  • Toshiba HDWC120XK3J1 2TB Canvio Desktop External Hard Drive
  • USB 3.0 (2.0 compatible)
  • Speed: 5700 RPM
  • Weight: 1,000g
  • Average Seek Time: 14ms
  • Cache Buffer: 32MB
  • RRP: $189.95
  • Where to buy: CCPU Computers, Carlingford NSW (online)
  • CCPU Price: $115 + $10 Nation Wide Shipping
