Japanese development studio Platinum Games may be considering buying the rights to the Darksiders franchise following the tragic auctioning of assets belonging to bankrupt publisher, THQ.

Atsushi Inaba, executive producer of Platinum Games, has taken to Twitter to express his surprise that the Darksiders IP remains up for grabs. He follows up by implying if the price was cheap enough he’d very much like to purchase the rights.

In the wake of the auction, which saw THQ’s in-house studios bought by other game publishers and organisations sold off to the highest bidder, it’s surprising that both the Darksiders IP and its developers Vigil remained unsold. Could it be other publishers lack of faith in the fledging franchise?

While perhaps not setting the world alight in terms of sales, both Darksiders games have been reasonably well received by gamers and critics alike, thanks to the blended nature of the gameplay and original universe. Most recently, Vigil ported last years Darksiders 2 to Nintendo Wii U.

In a post on NeoGAF, lead combat designer for Vigil Ben Cureton posted an open letter expressing his thoughts on the studio not being picked up alongside other THQ assets, while opening up slightly about Vigil’s upcoming game, codenamed “Crawler”.

Elsewhere, Haydn Dalton, lead designer on the aforementioned sequel, took to Twitter to open up about plans regarding Darksiders III and how it might had featured 4 player co-op.

What do you guys make of it all? Disappointed to see Vigil and its Darksiders franchise not picked up in the THQ sale? What about Platinum Games potentially buying it up? Would you want Bayonetta in your Darksiders?
