Developer Two Tribes have today announced a new platforming game coming to the upcoming Nintendo Wii U, Toki Tori 2
The game is a direct sequel to Two Tribes’ 2001 Nintendo Game Boy Colour title, Toki Tori and features the return of the titular character, who just so happens to be the cutest little chick ever.
Toki Tori 2 is a 2D perspective platforming game presented in full 3D (check out the announcement trailer below). The game will use the Nintendo Wii U’s Gamepad tablet-like controller, though being a platformer it will still use traditional control inputs such the analog stick and face buttons.
Two Tribes have indicated in their announcement that they’re looking at ways to use the Gamepad in new and interesting ways – one such ways is via a feature they call ‘Tokidex’. Their description below;
The Tokidex feature allows you to scan the area around Toki Tori for creatures and objects by using the Wii U Gamepad as a virtual camera with a viewfinder. Any creatures photographed will be added to the Tokidex.
If you’re unfamiliar with the original game – it follows the cute little chick, Toki Tori, who ventures out on a quest to rescue his unhatched brothers and sisters. Each level has you overcome platforming puzzles and an assortment of enemies to find the egg at the end before progressing to the next. Since it’s 2001 release Toki Tori has been remade/released for Windows Phone platforms, made available on Steam, released for iOS devices and an enhanced remake was released on the Nintendo Wii via the Wiiware store.
Toki Tori 2 will be released later in the year and will be available on the Nintendo Wii U via the Wii U eShop, as well as Steam.
